Some words by Marilyn (my Mum) about the Aniversary.

I never thought when I went to the opening of “Marr’s Bar” on the 29th May 1969 that 40 years later I would be celebrating this Anniversary with Ronnie(husband) ,James (son) and Sara (daughter). Along the way I married the boss of the bar and had two children.

What a party we had on Sunday. Friends and family came together for a day of fun, nostalgia and laughter. It was amazing and such a surprise to see friends come from Australia, Holland and France as well as the UK.

Where have the years gone? Very quickly that’s for sure. We have seen so many changes but always the bar retained its unique appeal

It has always been a cosy place with good vibes even when empty Years ago when the local Spanish discovered it they called it “La Tasca del Pueblo” and has become a meeting place for young local people. Fathers, sons and now grandsons have come through the doors to enjoy a “copa”. From the Mayor to the local dustman they have all been there. It has become a “rite of passage” for the young people of the pueblo.

Marr’s Bar has a personality all of its own. When Ronnie found this old cellar in the” street of the cats” in 1968 and set about making it into a bar many people said it would not work It was up a little back street although a very picturesque street and too well hidden. Fortunately it did work and the tourists found it thanks to Ronnie doing his PR on the streets near the bar. Word spread and the rest is history.

Luckily our two children now adults decided after studying and various jobs that they wanted to continue the tradition and run the show. Ronnie and I were going to sell and retire so were delighted when they took over. Now it is in their hands and we wish them success and good times in the years to come.

Oh if the walls could speak what tales they could tell!

Hooray for Marr’s Bar it has given us a good life and hopefully will in the years to come.

Algunas palabras de mi madre sobre el 40aniversario.

Nunca pensé cuando fui a la apertura de “Marr’s Bar” el 29 de mayo 1969 que 40 años más tarde iba a celebrar este aniversario con Ronnie (marido), Jaime (hijo) y Sara (hija). Durante el camino me casé con el jefe del bar  y tuve dos hijos.

Vaya fiesta tuvimos el domingo. Amigos y familiares se reunieron para un día de diversión, risa y nostalgia. Fue increíble y una grata sorpresa ver a amigos que vinieron de Alemania, Australia, Holanda y Francia, así como el Reino Unido.

¿Que ha pasado con los años? Han volado eso seguro. Hemos visto tantos cambios, pero el bar siempre ha conservado su encanto.

Siempre ha sido un lugar acogedor con buena onda, incluso cuando está vacío. Años atrás, cuando lo descubrieron los españoles lo llamaban “La Tasca del Pueblo” y se ha convertido en un lugar de encuentro para los jóvenes locales. Padres, hijos y nietos han atravesado las puertas del local para disfrutar de una “copa”. Desde el Alcalde hasta el barrendero, todo el mundo ha estado allí. Se ha convertido en un “lugar de encuentro” para los jóvenes del pueblo.

Marr’s Bar tiene personalidad por si solo. Cuando Ronnie encontró este antiguo sótano en la “Calle de los Gatos” en 1968 y lo convirtió en un bar mucha gente dijo que no funcionaria porque estaba en una calle escondida aunque a su vez muy pintoresca. Afortunadamente funcionó y los turistas lo encontraron gracias a Ronnie y sus dotes de relaciones publicas en la calle cerca del bar. Corrió la voz y el resto es historia.

Por suerte nuestros dos niños, ahora adultos han decidido después de estudiar diversas carreras que querían seguir la tradición y continuar con el negocio. Ronnie y yo íbamos  a vender y jubilarnos y estuvimos encantados cuando tomaron riendas del negocio. Ahora está en sus manos y les deseamos éxito y buenos tiempos para el futuro.

Ay si las paredes pudieran hablar ¡Qué historias desvelarían!

¡Hurra por Marr’s Bar que nos ha dado una buena vida y esperamos que siga para muchos años mas.Larga vida al Marr’s Bar.

Got in the post the other day my copy of Tactile and was so happy to see that the project was included. They selected some of the works submitted… Christian Lindemann, Shin Tanaka, Sabine Kobel, Hutch, Daniel Arendt and Craig Atkinson.

Estas navidades regalamos una Magnífica Cesta de Navidad a unos clientes del bar ” Juan, Dani y Jose” ya que tenian el numero que coincidia con las tres últimas cifras del gordo de Navidad.  Aquí estamos con ellos haciendo entrega de la cesta.

Bienvenidos a la web del Marrs, por fin podremos actualizarla como es debido y subir todas las fotos de Carnaval de años pasados.
